My Amazing Mother

My mom and her twin brother, Doug, decided to run a half-marathon. 13.1 miles. Wow! She started out training wonderfully and on a consistent schedule, running farther and farther. But a couple of months before the race, she injured her knee. Nothing major, but they call it runners knee. She tried every thing from stretches, strengthening exercises, tape, etc. but it never really felt better. But she kept on training and didn't give up. At a week before the race she was only running about 7 miles. Some told her she should think about not racing. But she didn't give up. She ran the whole thing, she finished, and she did amazing!!

Can you find them? They're circled in red on the right side.

My beautiful camera work, but you can see my mom's taped knee. (The front legs are Doug's and just behind his is my mom with the pink.)

After the race started I hurried back to my mom's car so I could watch them at the mouth of the canyon. I made it in plenty of time and was even able to watch the first place guy pass.

Doug, in happy spirits. This was his first half-marathon and his time was 1 hour 38 min. He placed 9th in his age group, 78th in the males, and 103rd of 2,272 total racers. Amazing!

My amazing mother at the mouth of the canyon. This happy and she had been running the whole way! Truly amazing!

This was also my mom's first half- marathon. She finished with a time of 2 hours 7 min. She was 39th in her age group, 621st in the females, and 1,092 out of 2,272 runners (in the top half!). She did absolutely amazing, better then she thought she could do. What an amazing woman!
