New and Improved Garden: Step 3 Add Sand

One of my neighbors describes our area as the area where God's fertilizing missed. He said when you fertilize you go one way then the other, but some how you always have one or two spots that you some how miss. He said that was us.

Our soil is hard, salty, and mostly clay. We planted a tree one year and dug a nice deep hole. We hit some of the nicest clay to make pots out of but not to plant in. We put the water hose in the hole to fill it with water. But the hole never filled with water! There was a tiny crack at the bottom of the hole that all of the water was flowing into. We seriously tried filling the hole for half an hour and it never filled up. This same thing happened in our garden last year. We flood irrigated our corn, and the water would flow down the row, into a mysterious hole, and never fill up.

So, in attempt to make our garden soil nicer (and hopefully grow carrots) we added sand to our garden from our "giant sand box" (more about the sand box later). Now the dirt is even more fluffy!
