Beaver "Hunt"

 Up the mountain from our house is some gorgeous country!  One night we decided to take a drive and a picnic.  It was so much fun.

One of the fun things to do around there is "hunt" (technically search since no animal is harmed) for beavers.  There are TONS of beaver dams along the streams.

This is the kids way of "hunting" beavers. I'm sure they will eventually catch one. Just keep trying!

At last we spotted one! It is the black thing floating in the middle right.

The kids were so excited about the beavers we had to go home and research more about them. 
Did you know beavers...?

• are the largest rodent in North America.
• can weigh up to 40 lbs.
• build dams to make their favorite plant life grow, but also to keep them safe.  They are safer in water and so the more water around the easier it is for them to get to trees that were once out of reach. Because of their dams the trees are now in or closer to the water.
• can carry up to 40 lbs of wood!
• can cut a 1/2" piece of wood in one bite!
